Yamaha extends MotoGP contract with Alex Rins for another two years – The factory team focuses on continuity with Fabio Quartararo and Rins
Yamaha has set the next course for the future. After finding a new satellite team with Pramac, the contract with Alex Rins has also been extended. The Spaniard will continue to race for the factory team in the 2025 and 2026 MotoGP seasons.
“We have reached an agreement on the terms,” they said last weekend in Assen.
“We actually had a very good discussion last week in Assen. It was the first time we were able to sit down together properly. He liked what we were able to deliver. Basically, we wanted to keep him and he wanted to stay.”
“So there was no problem in that respect. It just took a while because we never really had the time to sit down and talk. But we are about to announce it.” Official confirmation from Yamaha is expected in the coming days.
The now 28-year-old entered MotoGP with Suzuki in 2017. In six years with the GSX-RR, Rins won five Grands Prix. When Suzuki withdrew from the premier class at the end of 2022, he switched to LCR-Honda and also won a race.
A serious leg injury put him out of action for a long time last year. Despite this, an agreement was reached with Yamaha last summer. So far this season, Rins has finished in the points four times, but has not yet finished in the top 10.
In Assen, he suffered several injuries in a highsider and had to undergo surgery. Rins will therefore be absent at the Sachsenring and will be replaced by Remy Gardner. The new contract underlines Yamaha’s confidence in the Spaniard.
This decision means that the Yamaha factory team will have Fabio Quartararo and Rins for the next two years. It remains to be seen who will join the new satellite team Pramac in the future
