Defending champion Tatjana Maria and Laura Siegemund have reached the quarter-finals at the tennis tournament in Bogotá.
The 36-year-old Maria won 2:6, 6:0, 6:2 against Julia Riera from Argentina. After losing the first set, the number two seed from Bad Saulgau fought back and won in 1:54 hours. The 36-year-old Siegemund defeated Francesca Jones from Great Britain 6:7 (4:7), 6:4, 6:2, converting her match point after 2:57 hours.
Maria will now face sixth seed Camila Osorio from Colombia in the quarter-finals; the 22-year-old won the 2021 tournament. Maria is the defending champion in Bogotá, having triumphed at the clay court tournament in the Colombian capital in 2022 and 2023. Siegemund will face the Czech number one seed Marie Bouzkova (25) in the round of the best eight.
Jule Niemeier had previously been eliminated in the round of 16 of the WTA tournament. The 24-year-old from Dortmund lost to Spain’s Cristina Bucsa (26).
