The German tennis players Eva Lys and Tamara Korpatsch have each reached the semi-finals of the WTA tournament in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, and will meet in a duel for a place in the final.
The 28-year-old Korpatsch defeated Ukraine’s Darija Snihur 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 and will return to the top 100 in the world rankings early next week.
Lys then clearly prevailed against Russia’s Ekaterina Makarova 6-2, 6-2 in just 71 minutes. The 21-year-old had already defeated top-seeded Romanian Sorana Cirstea earlier in the tournament.
The two players from northern Germany have never reached a singles final on the WTA Tour before and can hope for the biggest success of their careers. Lys and Korpatsch have not met before on the professional tour.
