Lukas Nmecha missing Wolfsburg for weeks

Things are not going well at VfL Wolfsburg. Six competitive defeats in a row – and now Lukas Nmecha, one of the top two scorers, is also out.

The Wolves announced on Wednesday afternoon that the striker suffered a serious ankle injury in his right foot in a duel with Benno Schmitz during the 3-2 defeat against 1. FC Köln and will be out for several weeks. After 65 minutes, the scorer of the interim 1:0 had to be substituted.

This means that the striker, who moved to the Mittellandkanal from Manchester City in the summer, will not only be unavailable at the end of the season in Munich, but also at the start of training for the second half of the season.

Nmecha has played 15 Bundesliga games this season, scoring six goals and topping the internal scoring charts together with strike partner Wout Weghorst. In the Champions League, the 23-year-old scored twice in five games. In November, the German U-21 European champion made his debut for the senior national team under Hansi Flick.

Managing director Meeske extends long-term

The VfL has already announced a change of course away from the sporting side. Managing director Michael Meeske has extended his contract until 2025. The 50-year-old, whose responsibilities include marketing, sales, finance and controlling, joined VfL in November 2018 from 1. FC Nürnberg. His partner in the management, Jörg Schmadtke, who is responsible for the sporting area, is also set to extend his contract.
