Romelu Lukaku (28) is not happy at Chelsea despite more playing time and important goals and prefers to talk about an ex-club.
Played through and scored a goal against Brighton, came on as a substitute at Aston Villa on the break and helped turn the game around with a 2-1 win: New signing Lukaku is slowly getting into his stride after a difficult period at Champions League winners Chelsea. At least one would think so.
But the attacker, who returned to London in the summer, told SkySports somewhat differently. After his Corona illness, Lukaku is healthy – but “not happy with the situation” in Thomas Tuchel’s team.
The reason for this is the German coach himself. The system had been changed, which did not suit Lukaku. Nevertheless, “I cannot and will not give up. I am professional,” said Lukaku, whose goal against Brighton was not enough to win the game due to a last-minute goal by the opponent. Chelsea are therefore now already eight points behind leaders ManCity.
With Inter, Lukaku wants to “win together again one day “
The Belgian, who has been getting less and less playing time since late November (but has also struggled with injury and a Corona infection in between), instead of talking about the title race with Chelsea, preferred to talk about his ex-club Inter Milan. A return to the Nerazurri was very much in the cards for him. “From the bottom of my heart”, Lukaku hopes to make a comeback to the defending Serie A champions “when I’m still at the top level so we can win more together”.
Lukaku also apologised to Milan fans for the unfortunate nature of his departure. Rather, he said, he had them to thank, adding, “I know I will return to Inter.” The Belgian “loves Italy, now is the right moment to talk about it”. Whether Chelsea coach Tuchel – after all, that of his current club – sees it the same way seems questionable to say the least.
