Lucas Hernandez (25) has escaped a prison sentence in Spain. The court granted the Bayern professional’s appeal.
Trusting Julian Nagelsmann’s gut feeling, Lucas Hernandez also expected the sentence that has now been handed down all along. Bayern’s coach had only said on Tuesday about a possible prison sentence for his defender: “I don’t have the impression that it will burden him.”
On Wednesday, Hernandez got off lightly in Spain. The Madrid District Court upheld the Frenchman’s appeal and imposed a four-year suspended sentence, and he must also pay 240 daily fines of 400 euros each, a total of 96,000 euros.
A six-month prison sentence had previously been ordered against Hernandez, which he should actually have started this Thursday – the day after the DFB Cup match at Borussia Mönchengladbach. The sentence had been handed down in 2019 for disobeying a no-contact order with his current wife.
