“Lost focus”: LeBron’s first training session with son Bronny provides emotional moments

LeBron James, star of the Los Angeles Lakers, is about to experience something completely new: he is now sharing the field with his eldest son Bronny James. For the first time, they are both training together as professionals, and LeBron admits that this has affected his concentration.

In an interview on the “GoJo and Golic” podcast, LeBron talked about this special experience and how difficult it was for him to stay focused during training.

Father-son moments on the court

“This week we went back to the gym, and it was really the first time that me and Bronny had been on the court together as pros, training, playing against each other, getting ready for the season,” James said. “There were a few moments when I lost focus, and I’m not used to that. I’m usually fully focused on the court, but there were a few moments when I looked to the side and just watched him – how he prepares, how he hustles. This is going to be an incredible season for me, and hopefully for him too.”

The father-son dynamic naturally plays a special role in this new constellation. LeBron also revealed that he has asked Bronny not to call him “Dad” on the pitch – at least not during training.

“You know what? He hasn’t called me by a name yet,” James said with a laugh. “I’ve been pricking up my ears waiting for that moment. I know it’s going to come eventually, and I’m curious to see if it’ll catch me off guard or just amaze me with what he calls me.”

Historical connection: First father-son duo in the NBA

With the Los Angeles Lakers selecting Bronny James with the 55th pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, the NBA has a historic father-son duo: LeBron and Bronny are the first pair in the league to play at the same time. This adds a very special excitement to the upcoming season, both for the James family and for NBA fans.

This new phase in LeBron’s career shows how special the sport can be when personal and professional worlds overlap. For LeBron, it’s not just another NBA season, but also a unique opportunity to watch his son grow into a professional athlete.
