Like Zverev: Early exit for Djokovic in Indian Wells

At the Australian Open, Novak Djokovic withdrew due to injury. Since then, the Serbian tennis star has not been doing well. He has not experienced such a miserable time in the last seven years.

Novak Djokovic, like Alexander Zverev, is in the throes of a severe crisis of form. The record Grand Slam winner was surprisingly defeated in his opening match at the Masters 1000 tournament in Indian Wells by Dutchman Botic van de Zandschulp with 2:6, 6:3, 1:6. The world number 85 had actually already failed in the qualifiers and only made it into the main draw as a lucky loser.

Djokovic made a total of 37 unforced errors in the second-round match. “I regret my level of tennis,” he said. He also said he couldn’t get used to the court surface compared to the center court. “I couldn’t find my rhythm.”

Two opening defeats since the Australian Open

After withdrawing from the semi-final against Zverev at the Australian Open, Djokovic has not won a single match since. The 37-year-old Serb also lost his opening match in Doha. The last time Djokovic lost three matches in a row was in 2018, according to the organizers. He is ranked seventh in the world.

Zverev is also far from his top form after his defeat in the Australian Open final. The 2021 Olympic champion has not made it to the semi-finals in four tournaments and was defeated in three sets by Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor in Indian Wells.
