FC Barcelona celebrated a clear 5-0 victory over Real Betis after a commanding performance. Five different goal scorers were on the scoresheet at the end
Xavi did without Gündogan (bench) in Barça’s starting line-up as he returned from the German national team with back problems. Joao Felix, on the other hand, made his starting debut.
The Catalans had the first shot of the game through Joao Cancelo, but Real Betis had two good scenes. Luis Henrique and Ayoze had two good chances in quick succession for the visitors. After that, however, the home side took more and more control of the game. Initially, this was only reflected in a significant increase in possession, as no playmaker was found in the final third.
Then it was the former Stuttgart player Romeu who served Joao Felix. The Portuguese allowed himself to be pushed away a little, but scored from an acute angle to take the lead (25th). The 23-year-old newcomer was also involved in the second goal because he did not get involved. A pass into the lane was let through by Joao Felix, giving Lewandowski a clear run and he was able to head over the inside post to make it 2-0 (32nd).
Ter Stegen prevents the equaliser
It was not until shortly before the break that Real Betis became really dangerous. Willian José tested keeper ter Stegen from close range. On the counterattack, Joao Felix again missed the chance. Keeper Rui Silva made a great save.
After the change, Real Betis’ resistance was limited, so there was no birthday present for the coach. Coach Pellegrini was celebrating his 70th birthday and had to watch Ferran Torres curling a free kick past the wall into the net for 3-0 (62nd). Only four minutes later Lewandowski passed to Raphinha in the penalty area, who unhindered increased the lead to 4-0 with a touchdown. Real Betis only offered limited resistance. Joao Cancelo outdanced his opponent and scored with a touchdown to make it 5:0 (81.)
The Catalans thus remain unbeaten on Matchday 5 with one draw and four wins. Royal Antwerp await them in the Champions League next Tuesday. The league continues on Saturday against Celta Vigo. Real Betis face FC Cadiz (Sunday), but must first play Glasgow Rangers (Thursday) in the Europa League.
