On Monday evening, Ulm lived up to their role as favourites in the Basketball Bundesliga and defeated Oldenburg 86:78. It was also the last duel of the two BBL legends Rickey Paulding and Per Günther – both will retire in the summer.
In the end, of course, only one was allowed to cheer – and that was Per Günther. The Ulm point guard scored nine points in just over 19 minutes. Rickey Paulding played a similar amount of time and scored exactly the same amount, but in the end Oldenburg had to admit defeat because Paulding missed two threes.
The guests, clearly underdogs going into the game, kept up very well with top team Ulm and were close until the end. But then the home side proved to have the better nerves and won the match 86-78.
Ulm, who celebrated their sixth BBL win in a row, moved past Bonn and are now in second place behind FC Bayern. Oldenburg missed their second win under new coach Ingo Freyer and remain last with only six wins.
