Kühn scores twice: Celtic beat City in Chapel Hill

Manchester City lost to Celtic Glasgow to kick off their trip to the USA. A former Germany international scored a brace in the goalfest in Chapel Hill

Celtic Glasgow defeated Manchester City 4:3 in a clash between the Scottish and English champions as part of the two clubs’ pre-season preparations in the USA. The game was played at the Kenan Memorial Stadium in Chapel Hill (North Carolina).

Nicolas Kühn, a former Bayern Munich and Ajax Amsterdam second-team player who later played for Erzgebirge Aue in the second division and Rapid Vienna in Austria, opened the scoring. The former DFB junior international finished off a remarkable move by the Scots to make it 1-0. City equalized through Oscar Bobb – the first goal for Celtic newcomer Kasper Schmeichel (33′) – but then had to swallow another Kühn goal and even the 1:3 through Kyogo Furuhashi (36′, 44′).

Haaland heads in an interim equalizer

In the second half, coaches Brendan Rodgers and Pep Guardiola made a number of changes and City joker Maximo Perrone reduced the deficit to 2:3 seconds after the restart (46′). Erling Haaland equalized in the 57th minute with a powerful header from Bobb’s left-wing cross. Around ten minutes later, the Norwegian and Jack Grealish were both off the scoresheet. The last goal of the game also came in the 68th minute: Honduran Luis Palma scored to make the final score 4:3.

ManCity have further test matches against AC Milan, FC Barcelona and Chelsea FC coming up in the USA, while Celtic start their Scottish Premier League campaign with a home match against Kilmarnock on August 4 after a comparison with Chelsea.
