According to test pilot Pol Espargaro, Pedro Acosta is in a good position at KTM to challenge the Ducati riders in the 2025 MotoGP season.
KTM is in a very good position to end Ducati’s dominance in MotoGP, according to test pilot Pol Espargaro. Espargaro considers the goal set by Pit Beirer, that a KTM rider will finish in the top three in the world championship, to be realistic. According to his compatriot Espargaro, KTM hopeful Pedro Acosta has what it takes to be one of the top MotoGP riders in 2025.
“He’s got nothing wrong with him,” Espargaro is convinced in an interview with the Spanish edition of Motorsport.com. ”I think he has everything. He has the talent, the character, the ambition of a champion. Pedro showed last year that, although he often lacks the necessary resources, he is the one who is making the step forward.”
“Maybe the only thing he lacked was patience – the maturity that only time can bring. He had to go through some learning processes,” analyzes Espargaro, with last year’s situation with Acosta in mind. ‘I think he has the means – or at least he is starting to develop them – to challenge Marquez, Bagnaia and other Ducati riders.’
Nevertheless, Espargaro avoids setting specific goals because he is not yet able to properly assess the balance of power in MotoGP in 2025. “We’ll have to wait and see how much progress all the manufacturers have made, not just Ducati. Aprilia and hopefully Honda, who seem to be improving a lot – and Yamaha? We need to start the season to see where we stand,” he notes.
“But without a doubt: if we talk about pure rider talent and speed, I think we currently have the most competitive structure in MotoGP – if you take the official KTM team with Tech3 and riders like Enea Bastianini or Maverick Vinales,” says Espargaro, praising the efforts of his employer to put together a competitive project.
Espargaro has the highest hopes for Acosta. “Without a doubt, Pedro is a rider who should be fighting for the top spots – because of his talent, his character and, I think, also because of his bike,” comments KTM test rider Espargaro.
