Klopp wants points against ManUnited if game is cancelled – Ten Hag threatens negative marker

Manchester United and Liverpool FC have made a poor start to the new season. The point-less Red Devils and the Reds both need a win in the duel to mend fences. LFC coach Jürgen Klopp would also take them to the green table in one particular case.

On 2 May 2021, a rarity occurred: the Premier League match between rivals ManUnited and Liverpool had to be postponed at short notice. The reason for this was protests by Red Devils fans, who then as now were unhappy with the Glazer family, the owners of the club. So much so that unpleasantness is again looming ahead of Monday nights game.

Once again, actions are planned against the owners. It is not known whether they will be as bad as last time, when the supporters set off plenty of pyrotechnics, among other things. But the opinion of Reds coach Jürgen Klopp is.

After it had been a first in the Premier League last time that the match had to be postponed because of fan protests, Klopp has now taken a clear stand. “If it happens, we should get the points,” said the Stuttgart man. “If that’s what the fans want, then we can’t just reschedule the game and put it somewhere in an incredibly full season. In a situation like this, the other team should always get the points because they have nothing to do with it and have prepared themselves. “

Ten Hag could set 101-year-old negative record

The teams will definitely be prepared. After all, both failed to start the season. ManUnited with new coach Erik ten Hag is last. According to Klopp, the rival is additionally motivated due to the two recent defeats against the Reds (0:4 and 0:5). The explosive atmosphere is there anyway, and ten Hag will want to avoid becoming the second ManUnited coach after John Chapman to lose three competitive games at the start – and that after 101 (!) years, according to “Opta”. On his debut, the Dutch coach won 4:0 against Klopp and Liverpool in a test match for this purpose.

However, should the Merseyside side win, they would make it three away wins in a row at Old Trafford for the first time in their history. If not, they face their worst start to a season in a decade after taking two points from two games so far.

Casemiro still missing

So it’s clear that the game has a special appeal for a number of reasons. And “the whole world will be watching” this classic, says Klopp. Provided the match takes place. Due to visa problems, the home side will probably still be without the almost signed six-pointer Casemiro, while Liverpool’s new striker Darwin will be missing due to a red card.
