Kimmich wants to be vaccinated after all

Joshua Kimmich wants to be vaccinated against the coronavirus after all. This is what the Bayern professional and national player told ZDF.

Kimmich told the broadcaster, according to a report on Sunday: “In general it was just difficult for me to deal with my fears and concerns, that’s why I was undecided for so long.” The 26-year-old has been at the centre of a fierce social debate about vaccination in recent weeks because of his doubts.

On Thursday, Kimmich had announced in a club statement that he would “not be able to play for Bayern again this year due to slight infiltrations in his lungs “ The 26-year-old made his last appearance so far in the 2-1 win against SC Freiburg on 6 November. Afterwards, Kimmich first had to be quarantined as the unvaccinated contact person of team-mate Niklas Süle. He then contracted the corona virus himself and also missed the final World Cup qualifiers in November.

Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann expects Kimmich to be able to start rehabilitation training in seven to ten days after his corona infection.

Recommendation of the Vaccination Commission

The Standing Commission on Vaccination recommends that convalescents be given a dose of the vaccine. However, vaccination should not take place until six months after the illness, provided the infection has been confirmed by a PCR test.

At the earliest, vaccination should be given four weeks after the end of symptoms. If the infection has been confirmed by detection in a blood sample, vaccination should follow from four weeks after diagnosis.
