FC Bayern have won the Supercup again. asked Oliver Kahn (53) for his insights from this match.
Of course, Kahn was also particularly fond of one of his professionals after the 5:3 victory in the Supercup. “Jamal has shown that he is one of the best German players at the moment,” the chairman said of Musiala (18), who himself scored the 1-0 lead against RB Leipzig, directly set up Benjamin Pavard’s goal to make it 3-0 and played a decisive role in Sadio Mané’s 2-0.
Mr Kahn, what does this match and this result mean?
The Supercup has always been a starting point for us in the past years. And of course you always prefer to start with a win with a view to the atmosphere and the overall situation. Otherwise, you’ve seen how many opportunities we have going forward, what different moments of surprise and what incredibly good footballers we have there, what speed we can bring into the game through many extremely fast players. On the offensive side we have a lot of possibilities.
So this model fits without a real centre-forward?
Yeah, I think today was strong. And it’s not like we don’t have options there in the current squad. Joshua Zirkzee is still there, Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, then young Mathys Tel, who is training incredibly well. We would have options there.
Is this the end of the discussion about a real nine?
There’s no discussion there.
Three goals conceded at the back and some free spaces for Leipzig. Will the defence remain the problem zone?
After this game, I don’t want to start such a discussion already. The team is still in a state of preparation, they are working hard, so it is understandable that lapses in concentration creep in at the end. Nevertheless, it would have been better for my nerves if we had avoided that.
