Overview of the Season - Ballon d'Or 2018 Mo Salah has provided us with another…
Luka Modric won the same trophies Cristiano Ronaldo won over the past year. Even though he didn’t score anywhere near as many goals, he’s equally worthy of winning the Ballon d’Or, especially after leading Croatia to the World Cup final and winning the Golden Ball as the tournament’s best player. It’s an assessment his teammate Isco agrees with.
“Modric gives us a lot every game,”
“He’s fundamental for us. hopefully, we can all be at his level. He deserves the Ballon d’Or, he’s a unique player.”
Modric also beat out Ronaldo for UEFA’s Player of the Year award, so he certainly has the necessary credentials to end Messi’s and Ronaldo’s 10-year diarchy.
Isco and Modric star in Real Madrid’s 3-0 win over Roma
Modric was once again essential in Real Madrid’s 3-0 victory against Roma in Julen Lopetegui’s Champions League debut. He was his usual brilliant self, controlling the midfield with his movement and passes and providing one of his trademark assists to open up Gareth Bale for Los Blancos’ second goal. It was the 12th time the two of them have linked up. Nobody has set up Bale throughout his career more than Luka Modric.
Isco was the one who broke the deadlock at the brink of half-time with a superb free kick. It was relatively routine after that. Bale’s 58th-minute goal increased the gap between the two teams and Mariano Diaz sealed the win in stoppage time. It was a great showing by Real Madrid on the European scene under the guidance of a new coach but Isco believes this is just the beginning.“We are very happy, it is a strong result with a very good game, we could have scored more,”
“We have to keep improving, we just started and we have time to correct the small mistakes.”
Roma have some work to do
Meanwhile, Roma needs to regroup and find their focus ahead of a weekend clash with Bologna at Stadio Renato Dall’Ara.
We can only work hard, focus on Bologna [on Sunday] and not anything else. We need points in Serie A and that will be a tough game.” – Danielle De Rossi
De Rossi was the one who fouled Isco to set up the free-kick which led to Real’s first goal. He feels his side has some work to do after being outplayed by a stronger opponent.
“You always get demoralized when playing against a team that forces you to run and run without seeing the ball,”
“We had the chances to be dangerous on the counter, but they have very good defenders as well as forwards, so it wasn’t easy to score.
Luka Modric won’t care too much. He’s solely concentrated on what he can do to help his club. While he awaits a perjury trial back in his home country, he also curiously awaits whether he can topple his adversaries and win his first Ballon d’Or.
