Improved, but no luck with threes: Bayern loses against Fenerbahce as well.

Once again, a favorite for the Euroleague title is too strong for the FC Bayern basketball players. The visiting fans make for a Turkish home game

The FC Bayern Munich basketball players have lost again to a title favorite in the Euroleague. Against Fenerbahce Istanbul, the team of coach Pablo Laso lost 67:76 (38:41) on Friday night. After five games in the premier league, the Munich team has a record of 2-3 wins. The best scorer against the Turks was Sylvain Francisco with eleven points.

Less than a week after the 59-98 debacle at FC Barcelona, the Munich team at least showed improvement. Even though the Euroleague title contender from Turkey was supported by numerous fans in the hall like a home team for the entire game, the Munich team led 20:19 after ten minutes. The second quarter, however, belonged to the guests: With 41:38 for Fenerbahce, it went into the break.

In the third, coach Dimitrios Itoudis’ team controlled the rebounds and allowed only nine Bayern points. Laso’s team did not score from beyond the three-point line, so the Munich team did not get closer to the 2017 Euroleague winners. Again and again, it was Fenerbahce star Scottie Wilbekin who hurt the Munich team from distance. With an eight-point deficit (47:55/30th minute), the Bundesliga club went into the final quarter.

There, world champion Andreas Obst showed his strength. Even though the national player only hit one of five three-pointers beforehand, he reduced the deficit to 66:68 with a long-range shot just 90 seconds before the end. However, Bayern could not finally turn the match around – Isaac Bonga committed a turnover, Obst missed another three-point attempt and the guests showed strong nerves at the free-throw line. In the end, FCBB stood at a meager three-point rate of 20.7 percent (6/29 threes) – and at the third defeat in the fifth Euroleague game. Fenerbahce, meanwhile, ranks fourth with four wins from five games as well.
