Zlatan Ibrahimovic is close to another milestone in his already lavish career. The forty-year-old striker still has one goal to score to recover a piece of art by Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
After all, they are the only two players who have managed to break the 300-goal mark in Europe’s top five leagues (Eng, Spa, Ita, Dui, Fra) since the turn of the century.
After Zlatan’s departure from Ajax in 2004, where he scored 35 goals in 75 Eredivisie matches, he turned into a merciless goal-scoring machine (see table). It will be difficult for the now 40-year-old Ibrahimovic to also leave Ronaldo and Messi behind. The Portuguese and the Argentinian scored 482 and 474 times respectively within the top five European competitions.
Ibrahimovic failed to score in his last game for AC Milan. In San Siro it was teammate and defender Fikayo Tomori who scored the only goal of Italian origin against Liverpool . On Saturday evening, the striker awaits a new chance in the away game against Udinese.
