On Friday evening, the BBL giants Bayern and Alba were once again challenged internationally. The Munich team made an exclamation mark in Madrid, the Berlin team lost clearly in Monaco.
At the end of the main round of the Euroleague, the basketball players of FC Bayern München once again put an exclamation mark. The Bundesliga club won 97:88 (34:52) at Real Madrid on Friday evening, overcoming an 18-point deficit at half-time and scoring 38 points in the final quarter.
The Madrilenians were unstoppable from the outside in the first half: The hosts sank eleven threes in the first 20 minutes, and thanks to good defence in the second quarter they pulled away to 54:32 at the break.
In the middle of the third quarter, the Bavarians found their rhythm and the guests dominated the start of the final period. With three and a half minutes to go, Deshaun Thomas gave Munich their first lead, and the visitors pulled away decisively with a 13:2 run in the final phase. Thomas scored twelve of his 16 points in the final quarter.
It was already clear before the game that the Bavarians would finish the main round in eighth place. This means that the Munich team will meet the best team in the Euroleague so far, FC Barcelona, in the play-off quarter-finals. The first team to win three games in the series will qualify for the semi-finals.
