Honda future still unclear: Nakagami wants certainty before summer break

Takaaki Nakagami still has no information from Honda as to whether he will continue at LCR in 2023 – That should change in the races leading up to the summer break

It is still unclear whether Takaaki Nakagami will be able to compete in the German Grand Prix at the Sachsenring this weekend. After his crash in Barcelona, the Japanese rider had to spend a night in hospital, even though serious injuries could be ruled out.

In the meantime, Nakagami has recovered. But he still has to get through the medical check-up on Thursday to be cleared for the start. It would be all the more important for him, whose future beyond 2022 is still unclear.

Most recently, the 30-year-old, who has ridden in MotoGP for LCR Honda since 2018 but has yet to score a podium, stressed, “Of course I want to know as soon as possible to have clarity about next year and maybe even the future going forward. “

He expected talks to take place at Barcelona, Sachsenring and Assen. “At these races we will have the opportunity to talk to Kuwata san about it. At this stage I don’t have any information so I can’t say anything about it. “

Since there was nothing new to report in Barcelona, the next two races are therefore likely to be decisive. In any case, Nakagami himself maintained that he would like to have an idea of where and how things will go for him before the MotoGP summer break begins.

The Japanese rider has not yet made contact with any other teams, according to the latest information. He could be replaced at LCR-Honda by compatriot Moto2 rider Ai Ogura, who has been repeatedly linked with a move up to MotoGP of late. Ogura is currently fighting for the title in the intermediate class.
