In the eleventh minute of the second-division match against Hannover 96 (1-1), Hoffmann and visiting professional Sebastian Ernst clashed. It looked as if the Fortune tried to get to the ball with his head and was then hit violently by the opponent at neck and shoulder level. Hoffmann was unable to move his head and neck from then on.
