Manchester City may have paid dearly for reaching the semi-finals of the FA Cup. After the 2:1 defeat at Bournemouth, the reigning English champions are worried about their goalscorer Erling Haaland
Sunday was a constant up and down for Erling Haaland. The Norwegian advanced to the semi-finals of the FA Cup with Manchester City thanks to a narrow 2-1 win at AFC Bournemouth. However, the 90 minutes were hard work – even for Haaland. City’s goalscorer had already missed three top chances, including a missed penalty in the 14th minute, before he managed the redemptive equalizer shortly after the break.
The 1:1 was synonymous with his next record: it was his 30th competitive goal of the season – the last time a striker had scored at least 30 competitive goals in a season was Ruud van Nistelrooy in his first three seasons for a Premier League club.
A short time later, however, Haaland sat down on the pitch and caused head coach Pep Guardiola deep worry lines. While being treated by the team doctors, the Norwegian bit his hand in pain. Guardiola was only partially pleased that his replacement Omar Marmoush, of all people, scored the winner for the Sky Blues just two minutes after coming on as a substitute
