Mohamed Salah had taken the lead in the Golden Shoe rankings at the beginning of the year – and remains the measure of all things. Of his pursuers, only Harry Kane made up ground. In addition, two other Bundesliga players made a big leap in the list of Europe’s top scorers.
After the Premier League goalkeepers took the lead in the ESM ranking of Europe’s top goal scorers between the years, there was little movement at the top. Mohamed Salah, like Erling Haaland, who was listed in second place, was unable to score, the Premier League was on a break, and the FA Cup was taking place. And Robert Lewandowski – who, like Haaland, scored 16 goals and thus 32 points – did score once with FC Barcelona in the Spanish Supercopa, beating Real Madrid 5-2 in the final, but the goal that made it 2-0 is not included in the ESM ranking.
After Viktor Gyökeres, who came in fourth place, was also involved in the cup with Sporting, Harry Kane was able to make up some ground. The FC Bayern goalscorer scored decisively from the spot in Mönchengladbach (1:0), now has 15 goals to his name and is now in fifth place on his own. A quintet is breathing down the Englishman’s neck. Among them: Omar Marmoush. The ManCity-courted offensive player made Frankfurt’s 1-0 victory at the Millerntor against St. Pauli perfect and has now scored 14 goals.
Two double packers from the Bundesliga
But two other professionals from the Bundesliga also attracted attention alongside the two winning scorers Kane and Marmoush. Both Jonathan Burkardt of 1. FSV Mainz 05 and Patrik Schick of Bayer 04 Leverkusen scored twice, leading their teams to victories against Bochum (2-0) and Dortmund (3-2), respectively. Burkardt’s two goals vaulted him 13 places to 13th position, while Schick’s two goals lifted him 17 places to 21st position.
Sem Steijn also made a big leap forward, scoring a hat-trick to lead Twente Enschede to a 6-2 win against Willem II Tilburg. The Dutchman improved by 19 places to 19th position.
