Gladbach after Bayern gala: Hütter takes his team to task

After the gala in the cup against FC Bayern, it is now time for Borussia Mönchengladbach to face VfL Bochum in the league. Coach Adi Hütter sees his team as having a duty.

On Friday at the matchday press conference, the historic 5:0 against Munich was also the central topic in Mönchengladbach. How is Borussia coping with the strong performance? Hütter believes that his team can take “this momentum, this strength, this verve” with them against Bochum – “a completely different opponent”.

VfL have won their last three competitive games, Hütter emphasises, and he doesn’t believe that the Revierklub will “put themselves in the back of the net after three victories”. Rather, the Borussia coach expects an “unpleasant opponent”.

Whom he will play with the same line-up as against Bayern? What worked against Bayern does not necessarily work in the same way now against Bochum, Hütter brakes, “it may well be that the team possibly looks different.”  For example, “Ramy Bensebaini came off an injury and played 90 minutes twice.” Hütter did not want to commit yet who will start against Bochum.

“Therefore, we are more or less obliged to beat VfL Bochum. “

However, he wanted to be firm in his assessment of his defensive alliance. “Matthias Ginter and Jordan Beyer formed a sensational back three with Nico Elvedi.” Beyer will be missing against Bochum through injury, “all the others will be on board. “

Will Hütter do to Gladbach what he did to Frankfurt?

Hütter can therefore draw almost completely from the full when it comes to not falling into a hole after the gala. That’s what happened to Hütter with Eintracht Frankfurt after the 2-1 win over FCB last season, when a 1-2 loss to then cellar-dweller Werder Bremen and three winless games followed. But it also happened after the 5:1 with Eintracht against Munich in 2019/20, when Hütter came up empty twice with his ex-club in the Europa League at Standard Liege (1:2) and in the league at Freiburg (0:1).

Hütter does not want to make connections, after all, he is now the coach of Mönchengladbach. And Borussia has “another home game. We can win the game, we want to win the game, I would almost say we have to win the game. We have to get ahead in the league. Therefore, we are more or less obliged to beat VfL Bochum. “
