Gisdol no longer coach of Lokomotive Moscow

Markus Gisdol is no longer coach of Russian first division club Lokomotive Moscow. The 52-year-old had been pushing for his contract to be terminated.

Gisdol and Lokomotive Moscow will go their separate ways in future, the club confirmed on Tuesday. He had only taken up the job in mid-October, brought in at the time by Ralf Rangnick, who was still working in Moscow at the time as sporting director at the club. Gisdol, who has coached Hoffenheim, Hamburger SV and 1. FC Köln in the Bundesliga, had apparently pushed for his contract to be terminated after the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Eight more Germans at the club

It is still open, however, what will happen with the numerous other Germans at Lok Moscow. Marvin Compper has so far worked alongside Lutz Siebrecht as Gisdol’s assistant, and the former centre-back is now expected to take over training for the time being. Sascha Marth was goalkeeping coach and Martin Hämmerle was responsible for fitness, Christian Möckel and Matthias Wallenwein were in charge of scouting, Thomas Zorn acted as sports director and Lars Kornetka as managing director until now. Lokomotive Moscow currently ranks 7th in the Premier League, the club is owned by the Russian state railway RZD.
