In Australia, Lys excelled, but in the German qualifier for Indian Wells, her upswing faltered again.
Melbourne surprise Eva Lys has suffered a clear defeat in the German duel and missed out on a place in the main draw of the WTA tournament in Indian Wells, USA. The new German number one was beaten 4-6, 3-6 by Jule Niemeier in the qualifier final.
It was only at the beginning of the year that tennis pro Lys caused a sensation as the first female lucky loser to reach the round of 16 at the Australian Open. Subsequently, the 23-year-old made it into the top 80 for the first time; she is currently ranked 78th in the world. In addition to Niemeier, another German, Tatjana Maria, has made it into the main draw of the prestigious tournament in California.
