Fürth quartet may leave

Despite the recent point gains, staying in the league remains unrealistic. Nevertheless, movement is to come into the squad of SpVgg Greuther Fürth during the winter break.

In the end, the impression was that SpVgg Greuther Fürth was satisfied with the goalless draw against FC Augsburg. Goalkeeper Sascha Burchert took a lot of time to put the ball back into play, Branimir Hrgota likewise when he was substituted in the 82nd minute. Better a small step forward with the fifth point this season than another late disappointment like the 1:2 against Eintracht Frankfurt a few weeks ago.

At the end of this English week, a gentle development into the positive can be noted: SpVgg picked up four points, remained without conceding a goal in both home games, and was beaten 0:3 in Dortmund below value and too high. And yet, the impression is solidifying: If the team of coach Stefan Leitl wants to play courageously and offensively, it invites the opponents to score goals at the back. If, on the other hand, they concentrate on a stable defence, they hardly manage anything offensively. This balance, to bring both sides of a game into harmony, is of course also a question of quality.

Fein’s loan with FC Bayern is to be ended early

This automatically leads to the question of which squad the bottom team will start the second half of the season with. Adrian Fein’s loan from FC Bayern is to be ended prematurely, this relationship no longer makes sense for both sides, the midfielder never found his feet under coach Stefan Leitl. In the case of Nils Seufert, the club is aiming for a loan to the 2nd division. The midfielder is not getting as much play as he would like because of the competition in the midfield, so he should get some game practice. The club also has no obstacles in the way of Hans Nunoo Sarpei and Abdourahmane Barry. Sarpei is allowed to leave six months before the end of his contract, while the club would not take up Barry’s option in the summer and is therefore planning without him.

On the entry side, the club is looking for a goalkeeper, as Marius Funk will be injured until the end of the season. Loris Karius remains a candidate – one of several. A new central defender and a striker are also to come in if possible. However, it is questionable whether this can be realised by the start of training on 27 December, especially as the transfer window does not open until 1 January.
