Freiburg’s national players: Only one stands out

Nine Freiburg professionals travelled to their national teams during the international phase. Not everyone had as much fun as Kevin Schade did with the German U 21s.

Nico Schlotterbeck: Patience is needed for the U-21 European champion: although national coach Hansi Flick nominated him for the German squad again, as he did during the substitution period at the beginning of September, he left the centre-back on the bench most recently against Romania (2:1) as well as in North Macedonia (4:0). Thus, the 21-year-old is still waiting for his first minutes in the Germany jersey after five international matches with the DFB eleven.

Kevin Schade: Kevin Schade had more to celebrate. The attacking player scored his first goal in his first game for the U21s under new coach Antonio Di Salvo – with a header to equalise 2-2 in the match against Israel. The 19-year-old has already made four appearances in the Bundesliga this season. The U 21s will play Hungary on Tuesday evening.

Yannik Keitel: Like Schade, midfielder Keitel was also part of the starting eleven for Germany’s U 21s against Israel and was substituted after 74 minutes.

Mark Flekken: The SC goalkeeper was called up to the Netherlands national team for the first time by Bonds coach Louis van Gaal, but did not feature in either the 1-0 win over Latvia or the 6-0 win over Gibraltar.

Ermedin Demirovic: The attacker was last on the bench in the Bundesliga and was also only substituted in the 81st minute for Bosnia-Herzegovina against Kazakhstan (2-0). In the World Cup qualifiers, the Bosnians will play Ukraine on Tuesday evening for a place in the World Cup play-offs.

Woo-Yeong Jeong: The attacker from Freiburg was missing from the squad for South Korea’s 2-1 win over Syria, but Jeong was back in the squad for Tuesday’s match against Iran.

Roland Sallai:
The Hungarian was in the starting eleven for the 1-0 defeat to Albania but was substituted after 71 minutes. They still have a clash with England to come on Tuesday night, but Hungary have minimal chances of making the play-offs for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar after the defeat to Albania.

Noah Atubolu:
The goalkeeper was in the starting eleven for the U20s in the friendly against Poland (0-0), but was only on the bench for the 4-0 win over Romania.

Noah Weißhaupt: The U-20 winger was absent from the field against Poland, but played 90 minutes against Romania.
