Fraud in Fortnite: esports player is banned and must pay back prize money

Fortnite pro ‘Repulse’ is permanently banned from competitive tournaments. This was announced by the publisher and the player himself after a case of fraud – including further measures.

Under the title “February 15, 2025,” Fortnite pro Morgan Bamford has released a new video on YouTube. Unlike usual, however, there is no gameplay to be seen in it, but rather a confession. ‘Repulse’ admits to having faked his qualification for the Grand Finals of the Fortnite Champion Series (FNCS) 2023.

The Australian e-sportsman released the video as part of a legal settlement with organizer Epic Games. He confesses his crime in writing and apologizes for it. In addition, ‘Repulse’ vows never to cheat in Fortnite again.

The publisher wrote on X: “Cheating is never a promising strategy. We have taken legal action against a player who shared his account in order to unfairly qualify for FNCS. Now he is permanently banned from Fortnite tournaments and his unearned prize money has been donated to charity.”

Prize money goes to charity

So the eSportsman will not get a chance to make amends competitively. Epic Games permanently banned him from official competitions. The £20,000 in prize money he won at the time was donated to charity. It is not known exactly where the money went.

The Australian was no longer allowed to participate in the Grand Finals themselves in 2023. A few days before the start of the event in Copenhagen, both he and his then duo partner ‘Jace’ were banned from the competition.
