Forsberg is Sweden’s Footballer of the Year

Emil Forsberg is Sweden’s Footballer of the Year, succeeding Zlatan Ibrahimovic. However, his performances at RB Leipzig were not necessarily the deciding factor.

17 Bundesliga games, that is something to be proud of, but in Sweden it was his performance in the national team that was ultimately responsible for him being voted Footballer of the Year.

The 30-year-old receives the “Golden Ball” because he was an important pillar in the European Championship. The attacking player played an important role with four goals for the Scandinavians, who lost 2-1 after extra time to Ukraine in the last 16.

Forsberg also scored twice in the World Cup qualifiers, thus helping Sweden to reach the play-offs in second place in Group B behind Spain.

“For me it’s a great recognition and proof that you’ve had a fantastic year,” Forsberg said via “TV4”, adding, “I’m happy and proud. ”

The Leipzig player is currently out of action due to a hip tendon injury – his comeback is scheduled for February.
