Former champion Cihan Yasarlar wants a “sensible” end to his career

Cihan Yasarlar hasn’t had enough yet: the 2017 German FIFA individual champion wants to play for a club again next season. He can’t close the deal – not even with himself

Cihan Yasarlar only wants this one more year at the highest level. The 30-year-old has not yet written off his eSports career, which has come to a massive standstill – but is prepared to say goodbye. He wants to play for a club again in 2024/25 in order to finish “sensibly”. The 2017 VBL individual champion wrote this on X after the turn of the year. The fitting end to a great career was actually supposed to take place in his Berlin home at Hertha BSC. But that did not happen.

In February 2023, Yasarlar was released by the Old Lady before his contract expired. Months later, he made serious accusations against the capital city club, which in turn rejected them – we reported. “I could neither come to terms with the issue nor with myself,” wrote Yasarlar.

“Then I will say goodbye to you “

Even before the current season, he was hoping for one last opportunity and, according to his own statement, held talks with three clubs. However, no agreement was reached. Yasarlar then drove an Uber in Berlin to “earn a bit of money”. His career was “on hold” in September.

This status does not appear to have changed since then. There is still hope of a one-year contract with a VBL team. However, Yasarlar is realistic enough to know that his largely successful eSports career may not end well. “If it doesn’t come to that for whatever reason, then I will say goodbye to you,” he concludes his X-Post.
