Wrestler Anastasia Blayvas wins bronze at the World Championships in Belgrade and gives the German team its first medal.
Wrestler Anastasia Blayvas surprisingly won bronze at the World Championships in Belgrade and secured the first medal for the German team.
The wrestler from Leipzig defeated Neha Sharma from India in the small final of the 55 kg weight category on Tuesday evening in the Serbian capital and celebrated the biggest success of her career.
Wrestling: Brugger misses out on medal
A little later Elena Brugger (Adelhausen) missed a second medal for the DRB selection in the bronze medal match of the weight category up to 59 kg. Brugger, who had won bronze in the 57 kg category at the European Championships in April, was beaten in the small final by Denmark’s Othelie Annette Höie. However, the woman from South Baden could be very satisfied with her fifth place.
The only downer: at next year’s Summer Olympics in Paris, the 55 and 59 kg categories are not part of the programme – instead of ten categories at the World Championships, there will only be six decisions. Blayvas and Brugger could then compete in the 53 and 57 kg classes.
