Europe has no chance: Indonesia and Malaysia are eFootball world champions

Europe had little say in the FIFAe World Cups in eFootball: there were no Europeans in the finals on either the console or mobile. Instead, Southeast Asia dominated.

The connection between FIFA and eFootball still seems strange. After all, the world football association had cooperated with Konami’s arch-rival EA SPORTS for decades until they parted ways in 2023. But in recent months, old competitors have become partners with joint projects: the FIFAe World Cups in eFootball.

The world championships on the console and in the mobile version came to a close on Thursday with the final duels. All of the European eNational teams had already been eliminated.

Two ex-Bavarians fail in the semi-finals

Spain’s ex-Bayern e-sportsman Miguel Mestre Oltra lost to Brazil in the semi-finals of the console competition. The same happened to Turkey with Oltra’s former FCB teammate Mücahit Sevimli in the semi-finals against the Indonesians.

‘BINONGBOYS’ and ‘SHNKS_ELGA’ then beat the Brazilians ‘GuiFera99’ and ‘STS_Jvictor’ twice 2-1 in the finals for Indonesia. ‘BINONGBOYS’ was then voted the best player of the tournament via community voting.

‘Minbappe’ without conceding a goal in the final

In the mobile competition, which was held in singles, not even a European had made it to the semi-finals. Morocco secured a place in the final against Thailand, while Malaysia’s ‘Minbappe’ defeated the Indians, who had lost to Turkey in the quarter-finals.

The final was rather one-sided for ‘Minbappe’: the Southeast Asian e-athlete was particularly stable defensively and did not concede a single Moroccan goal in the 3-0 and 2-0 wins. However, he did not win the vote for best player in the mobile tournament, which was won by Indonesian player ‘GARUDAFRANC’ – even though he had already lost in the quarter-finals.

No German eNational teams or players took part in either of the two World Cups. The FIFAe World Cups are a cornerstone for the rebuilding of eFootball eSports after the late Konami shock of 2023.
