Harry Kane’s brace not only helped FC Bayern München to victory over FC Augsburg. The record champions also broke the barrier in the perpetual table.
Since their first promotion to the Bundesliga in 1965, FC Bayern have played in Germany’s top division without interruption and are now the sole record holders with 1978 first division games.
But it is not only in terms of appearances that the record-breaking champions are the ultimate: their lead in the Bundesliga’s perpetual standings, in which the club from Säbener Straße is alone at the top, is even greater.
The FCB has outdone its competitors by more than 900 points – and since the 3:1 victory over FC Augsburg has been able to celebrate a new milestone.
Not only did new signing Harry Kane score his first Bundesliga brace in the win over their Swabian neighbours, his goals also saw the reigning champions break a record barrier: FC Bayern have scored 4001 points in just over 58 years in the Bundesliga.
Large gap to second place – Tight race for fourth place
In second place is Borussia Dortmund with currently 3083 points – however, BVB has 76 fewer first league games to show. SV Werder Bremen have a comfortable cushion in third place (2922 points), while VfB Stuttgart (2768) and Borussia Mönchengladbach (2763) are in a tight race for fourth place in the 60th Bundesliga season.
Meanwhile, Hamburger SV (2733) and FC Schalke 04 (2563) are two second-division teams in sixth and seventh place. Despite their current absence from the Bundesliga, the two traditional clubs need not worry about their position: Eintracht Frankfurt are currently 69 points behind Königsblau.
