Djokovic makes comeback at ATP Dubai tournament

Dubai – After being expelled from Australia and missing the ongoing Australian Open, Novak Djokovic returns to competition at the Dubai tennis tournament.

The world number one from Serbia tops the seedings list for the event, organisers announced. Media had last reported that the 34-year-old would make his comeback at the ATP tournament in the United Arab Emirates from 14 to 26 February. Djokovic has won the Dubai tournament five times so far.

Djokovic, who was not vaccinated against Covid-19, had to leave Australia shortly before the start of the Australian Open in mid-January. The record champion of the Grand Slam tournament had failed with an appeal against the cancellation of his visa before the Federal Court. Strict Corona rules apply in Australia; in principle, only people fully protected against the virus are allowed to enter the country. In the United Arab Emirates, a negative PCR test is usually sufficient.
