Despite high debts: Barça may spend significantly more money

There was a lot of talk about FC Barcelona and its transfers in the summer. On Friday, the league announced how much money the Catalans are allowed to spend this year.

The already heavily indebted FC Barcelona is allowed to spend a surprising amount of money this season after selling numerous assets. The Spanish league has significantly increased the Catalans’ spending limit for the current season, it was announced on Friday. Accordingly, Barça have been allowed to spend 656 million euros on players and staff, including salaries.

This is a very big jump after the club’s spending limit had been in negative territory last winter in the face of massive debts. To recover somewhat from its financial woes, Barcelona sold 25 per cent of its television rights and other assets in the summer for a total of around 870 million euros.

Of this, the Catalans recently spent around 160 million euros in transfer fees for the transfers of ex-Bayern attacker Robert Lewandowski, winger Raphinha and defender Jules Koundé.

Every club in Spain has a different spending limit, which depends on the ratio of income to expenditure and liabilities.
