A medical emergency in the stands has overshadowed FC Bayern Munich’s Champions League game against Benfica Lisbon from the start. The supporters stopped cheering. The fan’s life could not be saved.
Bayern Munich’s 1-0 victory in the Champions League preliminary round match against Benfica Lisbon has been overshadowed by a sad event. A fan who had to be resuscitated in the stands died on the way to the hospital. Bayern provided this information after midnight. The German record champions received the news about an hour after the final whistle.
A medical emergency in the stands of the Allianz Arena overshadowed the game from the outset. The incident occurred at the entrance to block 226 in the middle tier, in the right-hand corner above the south curve. After about half an hour of play, one of the preachers in the south curve made an announcement via microphone to inform the fans. As a result, all flags were rolled up and removed from the block, and the support from this area was finally stopped.
FC Bayern also reduced its coverage of the game. “FC Bayern is in mourning alongside the relatives,” the Munich team wrote in their statement.
