Dawson’s Delight as Hampshire Survive

Liam Dawson could not contain his delight at helping Hampshire to confirm their survival in the County Championship. Dawson has been named in the five-match ODI series in Sri Lanka and the all-rounder has put in another solid display against Yorkshire, taking two for 49. However, it was Yorkshire’s Tim Bresnan that was the man of the hour, taking five wickets to help Yorkshire to lead Hants by 199 runs. Bresnan’s 5-28 was a career best for him.

The pressure is off for Hampshire now

Dawson believes that now Hampshire can play without worrying about the threat of relegation, they will be able to enjoy their cricket and play without pressure. Just a few weeks ago it looked like they might be in line for another relegation battle but wins against Somerset, Worcestershire and Nottinghamshire ensured that they will be playing cricket in the County Championship again next season.

Now Liam Dawson can look forward to Sri Lanka, safe in the knowledge that Hampshire have steered well clear of relegation and now sit 4th in the table. Things are not looking good for Lancashire who lost in the war of the roses last week, as Yorkshire beat them by 95 runs. Lancashire now sits 14 points behind Yorkshire.

Worcestershire is on the brink of relegation after Ravi Bopara hit a century for Essex and they trail by 240 runs. Lancashire’s match against Hampshire on Monday will be a very tense one for the visitors, as they need to get a win and hope that their rivals Yorkshire are unable to get the points they need to secure their own survival
