In Saturday’s race at the Lausitzring, there was a crash shortly before the end: What happened to Jan Marschalkowski and why Mick Wishofer couldn’t avoid him
The rainy Saturday race of the ADAC GT Masters at the Lausitzring ended with a bang – literally! Because shortly before the end Mick Wishofer in the Emil Frey Lamborghini 8 (Dienst/Marschalkowski).
The scene was preceded by a spin by Marschalkowski in the long turn 7. “I lost the rear there and had to go through the gravel. I took a full left but still slid back on the track “
Marschalkowski spins – Wishofer can’t get out of the way
An impact that occurred at no small speed. “I arrived at 120 or 130 and only saw him relatively late because in front of me was the Audi of [Christopher] Mies.” This initially obscured the young Austrian’s view of Marschalkowski’s Mercedes-AMG.
Wishofer no longer had a chance to avoid Marschalkowski and crashed into his young rival’s AMG. Instead of seventh and tenth places, where Marschalkowski and Wishofer were before the accident, there was only a lot of carbon fibre scrap.
“I tried to avoid him, but it didn’t work out. The stewards then ruled it a racing accident. It’s a pity for us, of course, because we lost good points in the Junior Championship. But you could see from all the spins that it was really difficult out there,” Wishofer commented.
ZVO-Mercedes on the road on Sunday with Lambo emblem
In fact, the race stewards refrained from penalising them – “no further action” was the verdict after hearing Wishofer and Marschalkowski and studying video footage. Due to the retirement they lost important points anyway.
Curios: On Saturday evening, the bonnet of the ondulated Lamborghini, among other things, was in the ZVO pit. On Sunday morning, a Lambo emblem was emblazoned on the rear of the AMG with the inscription “In Memory of Lausitzring 20/08/22”.
At least for Marschalkowski and his new ZVO teammate Marvin Dienst, the race weekend at the Lausitzring ended on a conciliatory note: in Sunday’s race, the Mercedes-AMG duo finished in eighth place and thus collected valuable points.
Wishofer and team-mate Konsta Lappalainen, on the other hand, were unable to shine. Although they finished eleventh in qualifying on Sunday, the duo slipped back to 16th place in the race, leaving them without any points at all
