Christian Horner: I definitely don’t want more excitement!

For Christian Horner’s heart health, the 2023 Formula One season seems just right – Red Bull team boss enjoys dominance

“I wouldn’t wish for a bit more excitement because I’m still recovering from the 2021 season,” says Christian Horner about his Red Bull racing team’s dominance of the 2023 Formula One World Championship. The Red Bull team boss is pleased with the performances of Max Verstappen, who is dominating the premier class at will and is most likely already set as world champion.

Horner praises the teamwork at Red Bull that makes the difference. Not only the technically superior car, but also the meticulous work behind the scenes of a Grand Prix are the key to success, he said. “Every area at the base does its job, because you don’t get results like this by chance,” he says.

The team boss pays respect to his staff and “takes his hat off to them” and their achievements. Week after week, the Red Bull staff give their best to defend their supremacy in Formula One. “Everyone works as hard as they can to deliver that performance,” makes clear Horner, who is himself part of the success.

Red Bull dominate at will

The numbers speak for themselves: Verstappen has won ten of twelve races, with the remaining victories going to his teammate Sergio Perez. The Dutchman thus clearly leads the overall standings, with the Mexican 125 points behind in second place. Behind him is Fernando Alonso in the Aston Martin, 40 points behind Perez.

In the constructors’ championship the picture is even clearer. The Red Bull drivers have collected 503 points so far, which is 256 points more than Mercedes in second place. Behind them are Aston Martin and Ferrari, who are not consistent enough to keep up with the leaders. But what do the competitors have to offer the top Formula 1 team? Is it really just the car or the super talent Verstappen?

Ferrari team boss Frederic Vasseur says: “You can’t look at the driver, the team and the car in isolation. It is the driver who develops and tunes the car. That is part of the performance of the car. But we see from race to race that there is a big difference between the two teammates, but that’s not my problem, it’s Red Bull’s problem. “

Recognition from the competition

Vasseur acknowledges the Dutchman’s performance, saying he is “doing a fantastic job”. That’s why he would “do no harm” in the premier class with his dominance, he says. “We just have to do a better job,” are the clear words of the Ferrari string-puller. “We can’t complain about Max or Red Bull.”

The 2023 Formula One season has reached the halfway point, with ten races left on the schedule. It would have to be a case of the devil if Verstappen were still to surrender first place. Behind the Red Bull drivers, on the other hand, it will be particularly tight, because the midfield has moved very close together. The next Grand Prix will take place on 27 August 2023 in the dunes of Zandvoort in the Netherlands. For Verstappen, it will be the second home race after Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium.
