Childhood dream becomes reality: G2 unstoppable at LEC Season Finals.

G2 has crowned a dominant LEC season. In Montpellier, the Berlin eSports organisation also won the Season Finals after the Winter and Summer Split.

The latest chapter of the demonstration of power had already begun for G2 with a small celebration: After their success in the Upper Bracket semifinals against Team BDS, Worlds qualification was already a foregone conclusion. G2 will thus be one of the EMEA region’s representatives at the Worlds again this year.

Short trial in the Grand Final

However, securing qualification for the World Championships in South Korea was far from enough for G2. The double split champion, who dominated this LEC season at will, also wanted to win the first ever Season Finals – and did so once again with aplomb. The success against BDS was followed by a 3:1 victory against the MAD Lions, before Fnatic did not become a major hurdle in the Grand Final. The British team reduced the score once again after the Berliners had taken a 2:0 lead, but only 23 minutes later they were also defeated 1:3.

‘Yike’s childhood dream becomes reality

A particularly special affair for Martin ‘Yike’ Sundelin. The Swede with Peruvian roots, awarded Rookie of the Year in the wake of the Season Finals, revealed via X (formerly Twitter) how special the final was for him in particular: “Years ago I was just a kid watching every final between G2 and Fnatic and dreaming of being a part of it. Today, this has become a reality.”

There was also double cause for celebration for Mihael ‘Mikyx’ Mehle, who was named MVP of the Year. The Slovenian, who has played for G2 since 2018 and claimed his sixth LEC title with the team, commented dryly on the recent success: “It was pretty fun. See you at the Worlds. “

In form after South Korea

The LoL World Championship in October and November will be held in Seoul and Busan and is the final highlight of the season. The search is on for the successor to the outgoing sensational champion DRX, who was unable to qualify for the upcoming finals – not surprisingly, with the exception of the supporter, all players switched to other organisations.

Will the new champion perhaps come from Germany? G2 currently has the form, but will of course face much stronger competition in South Korea. How the LEC dominator will do on the biggest LoL stage will become clear on 19 October. Then G2 will get into the action in the course of the Swiss Round.
