Champion and runner-up not in FC 25: EA SPORTS loses Serie A licenses

Two major Serie A clubs will no longer be licensed in EA SPORTS FC 25. This was confirmed by David Jackson in an interview

It sounded like a big coup: EA SPORTS announced the return of AS Roma and SSC Napoli in FC 25 with two impressive trailers. However, this does not resolve the patchwork of licenses in Serie A.

In an interview with the Italian daily newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, the Vice President of the EA SPORTS FC brand, David Jackson, confirmed what had long been suspected: “AC Milan and Inter Milan will not be authentically represented in FC 25.”

As was previously the case with Roma, Napoli and Juventus Turin, club names, shirts and crests will have to be changed in the latest installment. The players, on the other hand, can be depicted true to the original “thanks to the FIFPro license we have”. This is a bitter loss for EA SPORTS, both from a sporting perspective and in terms of the appeal of the two clubs. After all, Inter became Italian champions last season – city rivals Milan finished in second place.

Will the San Siro remain in FC 25?

A derby della Madonnina between champions and runners-up under floodlights at the San Siro? This is therefore only possible with a lot of compromises, as the Milan stadium is also affected by the loss of its license. In future, fans and players will have to make do with matches at generic venues.

While it is already known that Inter will only be playable in Konami’s eFootball from 2024, it is not yet clear who has secured the exclusive rights for AC. According to rumors, the contract was also awarded to Konami. Atalanta Bergamo and Lazio Rome are still not licensed in FC 25.

Nevertheless, Jackson confirmed that he would secure licenses “at every opportunity that presents itself” in order to reduce the patchwork or even collect all rights under the EA SPORTS umbrella. Although the developer and publisher has a partnership with Serie A, the clubs can market themselves.
