Cadillac Project GTP: LMDh bolide completes shakedown

Earl Bamber has the honour of completing the first laps of the Cadillac Project GTP: Two more test drives are already scheduled for the LMDh bolide

There’s something happening in the hypercar and LMDh category, the new premier class of endurance racing around WEC, IMSA and Le Mans: After the Ferrari LMH, the Cadillac Project GTP has now also been spotted at the shakedown!

At the wheel of the brand new LMDh prototype was Earl Bamber. The New Zealander, actually a works driver for Porsche, enthused after his first outing in the Cadillac: “It was a monumental event, thanks to a complete team effort from Cadillac, Chip Ganassi Racing and Dallara.”

“It was an exhilarating feeling to get in the car for the first time and get a glimpse of what the future will look like. So much work has gone into the 2023 race car and I can’t wait to see it race next season. “

Cadillac test programme with Road Atlanta and Daytona

Cadillac will subject the race car to further testing ahead of its scheduled debut at the 2023 Daytona 24 Hours. Already planned and approved by the IMSA series are test drives at Road Atlanta from October 3-5, and at Daytona International Speedway on December 6 and 7.

“The first rounds are the start of an aggressive testing schedule for 2023,” said Laura Wontrop Klauser, who leads the sports car programme at GM. “Our team is committed to continuing Cadillac Racing’s rich heritage of winning on the track.”

Her assistant Kalvin Parker added: “It’s exciting to see the hard work and ingenuity of the entire team pay off. The 2023 season promises to be one of the most competitive ever, so we’re looking forward to developing the race car further with more on-track testing, driver feedback and in the wind tunnel. “

For the LMDh programme, Cadillac is teaming up with Action Express Racing and Chip Ganassi Racing. Both already act as customer teams in IMSA’s top DPi class. The Dallara LMP2 chassis will serve as the basis for the Cadillac Project GTP. In addition to the IMSA programme, Cadillac also intends to enter a car on a full-time basis in the WEC.
