But no Lamborghini announcement: Where is the new motorsport boss?

Where is the new Lamborghini motorsport boss? Why the announcement at the beginning of December did not take place and what is happening behind the scenes

December 2024 as the new head of motorsport at Lamborghini. But neither an announcement at the Lamborghini World Finals in Jerez at the end of November, nor a press release at the beginning of December, stating that the LMDh director would be moving from BMW to the Italian Audi subsidiary, took place as expected. What’s going on?

It is now official that Leschiutta will not be staying at BMW: the Canadian with Italian roots announced this on social media on November 30. “Today is my last day as an employee of BMW AG, which makes it exactly five years since I arrived in the beautiful city of Munich on December 1,” he writes.

As can be seen from his words, saying goodbye was likely to have been quite an emotional experience for Leschiutta. He ends by writing: “New challenges lie ahead. But for now, I say thank you and goodbye.”

BMW contract still valid until the end of December 2024?

Is it really Lamborghini, although nothing has been announced yet? The 62-year-old is apparently already going in and out of Sant’Agata Bolognese. However, Leschiutta is contractually bound to BMW until December 31, 2024, which has apparently caused the delay.

Therefore, the presentation of the new Lamborghini motorsport boss can now be expected in the new year. Until then, Development Director Rouven Mohr, who has held this position since the departure of long-time motorsport director Giorgio Sanna as an interim solution, will continue to run the business.

A quick solution would be in the interest of Lamborghini, because the WEC exit in the Hypercar class and the unclear situation with Iron Lynx in the LMDh project means there are currently a few issues to be resolved.

Meanwhile, Lamborghini seems to be well positioned in the DTM: although there is a question mark over the future of the championship-winning team SSR Performance, Grasser and Paul are planning to compete in the traditional series in 2025 as well. In addition, they have been able to win a top team in Abt.
