Bruno Famin: Remain team boss until my boss tells me otherwise!

Alpine team boss Bruno Famin wants to remain boss of the racing team for the time being and does not see it as his task to find a suitable successor

Will Bruno Famin remain team boss of Alpine’s Formula 1 racing team? When predecessor Otmar Szafnauer was ousted on the sidelines of the Belgian Grand Prix in the summer, Famin was officially appointed interim team boss until a real successor to Szafnauer could be found

However, it doesn’t look like another change at Enstone is imminent: “I’m not a fan of changing an organization just to change the organization,” says Famin tellingly.

“Because you can change the organization as much as you want and as often as you want, but if the people don’t want to work together, then it will never work,” the Frenchman emphasizes. “It’s more about finding out how people work well together to get the best performance out of everyone for the whole team.”

And that is precisely what Famin sees as his top priority at the moment – not finding a suitable successor for himself. “That’s not my top priority,” he says when asked. “The top priority is that people work together.”

Famin had once grown up at Peugeot and then moved to the FIA in 2019 before being appointed by Alpine CEO Laurent Rossi as the new head of engines in Viry-Chatillon in February 2022, where he was responsible for Renault’s engine program before a successor was found in October. Three weeks before Szafnauer’s departure, he was made Vice President of Motorsport.

In the summer, his role as interim team principal of the Alpine Formula 1 team was added. In Belgium, he took the helm as part of a major restructuring that also saw Rossi fall victim. But while names such as Mattia Binotto have been floated as a successor, it now appears that Famin could remain at the helm.

In any case, he himself is happy in his role: “As far as I’m concerned, I’m very happy with my position as team boss,” says Famin, “and as long as my boss doesn’t tell me to change anything, I’ll stay. “
