After the shock of Sunday’s aborted Serie A match, Roma have officially announced that defender Evan Ndicka is on the road to recovery and has been discharged from hospital
Evan Ndicka had collapsed in the 70th minute of his Roma’s Serie A visit to Udine early on Sunday evening without the intervention of an opponent, grabbing his chest in the heart area and was eventually carried off conscious. The match was abandoned after a long discussion with the referees and AS coach Daniele de Rossi.
The former Frankfurt player, who had received warm words from Eintracht via social media (“Moments when soccer becomes so unimportant! Our get-well wishes go to none other than Evan Ndicka. Stay strong, fighter! Our thoughts are with you”), was then taken to a nearby hospital.

The first fears that the reigning Africa Cup winner with the Ivory Coast might have suffered a heart attack were allayed. On the online platform X, the capital city club posted a photo of the defender clenching his fist again and smiling slightly: “Evan is feeling better and is in good spirits. He will remain in hospital for observation.”
On Monday evening, it was also announced that Ndicka had been discharged from hospital and would undergo further tests in Rome
In the same breath, the Giallorossi also thanked all those involved and everyone’s understanding: “AS Roma would like to thank Udinese Calcio, referee Mr. Pairetto, the public present at the Udine stadium and the medical staff of the Santa Maria della Misericordia hospital in Udine for their professionalism and availability. The symptoms could be related to chest trauma (a type of trauma to the chest caused by blunt force trauma that can affect organs such as the lungs, pleura and heart), according to the club’s press release.
