David Brooks new Bournemouth player
Bournemouth’s manager Eddie Howe has boosted his ranks with the signing of youngster David Brooks. The fee hasn’t been disclosed, but it is believed to be somewhere around €14 million. The 20-year-old signed a new contract with Sheffield United in 2017. However, interest from Premier League clubs, a change in representation and a club-record transfer offer scrubbed his unavailable status. The deal includes additional bonus clauses as well as a sell-on percentage.
David Brooks
Brooks rose through Manchester City’s youth academy before moving to Sheffield United in 2014. He spent three seasons with The Blades’ senior team and made a name for himself as one of the most talented midfielders in England’s second division. Although he represented England’s U-20 squad, he switched allegiances recently and is now a member of the Welsh national team (his father is English, his mother is Welsh).
One of the main reasons why David Brooks decided to join Bournemouth is their manager Eddie Howe.
“When you look at Eddie Howe as a manager you want to be involved in something like that. He’s got big ambitions and with younger players he develops them well and he gives them a chance.
“That’s something I’m looking for and he was one of the main attractions for me to come to Bournemouth.”
Eddie Howe was the youngest Premier League manager last season and his success with Bournemouth put him in the conversation to replace Arsenal’s Arsene Wenger. He started his managerial career at 29, led Bournemouth to Premier League promotion in 2015 and has kept The Cherries there ever since.
The 20-year-old Welsh starlet joins 21-year-old Lewis Cook and 24-year-old Ryan Fraser in a Bournemouth’s underrated midfield. What the team lacks in star power, it makes up for in devotion. That’s the style Eddie Howe dictates: tough, determined, relentless.
The manager is a fan of the new kid coming to town.
“David is a player we have been looking at for a long time. He is technically very good, has huge potential and will fit our philosophy in terms of how we want to play.
“We’ve seen enough to suggest he is a player who could be outstanding at this level in the future if he develops in the right way and is willing to learn and improve.”
David Brooks left a Sheffield United team which finished 10th in the Championship and was expected to contend for promotion in 2018/19, and instead joins a Bournemouth team that will look to improve on its 12th place finish in the Premier League last season.
