Boris Becker remains coach of young star

Tennis legend Boris Becker will continue to coach young Danish star Holger Rune next year. He confirmed this on Sunday

Boris Becker will remain coach of the young Danish star Holger Rune. The tennis legend confirmed this on Sunday on X. Becker wrote: “I am very happy to continue my collaboration with Holger Rune in 2024. We will build a team around Holger to get the best out of him, on and off the court. “

Rune’s mother had already confirmed the continued collaboration on Saturday, according to consistent Danish media reports. “We will organize the calendar next week,” said Aneke Rune about the plans for 2024.

Becker has been coaching the 20-year-old since October, and under the guidance of the six-time German Grand Slam winner, the Wimbledon quarter-finalist’s form has been on the rise again after a lengthy dip in performance. On Thursday, Rune, ranked eighth in the world, was eliminated in the group stage of the ATP Finals in Turin.

Three-time Wimbledon winner Becker, who enjoys an excellent reputation in the scene as a coach, celebrated numerous successes as coach to record Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic (36) between 2013 and 2016 and led the Serb back to the top of the ATP rankings.

His new role as coach also makes it increasingly unlikely that Becker will be working as a pundit for TV channel Eurosport at the Australian Open in Melbourne.
