Sony has published the download rankings of 2021 for the PlayStation Store: FIFA 22 dominated in Europe on both console generations.
Even for the die-hard FIFA community, the relationship with their favourite game is often more like a love-hate relationship, with criticism of EA SPORTS and the football simulation usually the harshest from its biggest representatives. However, this ambivalent relationship did not detract from the success of the series in 2021.
Sony recently published new rankings for the PlayStation Store, listing the games with the most downloads in the past year. In Europe, FIFA 22 takes first place – both for the PlayStation 4 and for the PlayStation 5. How big the lead is in each case, however, is not clear from the charts due to missing values.
FIFA 22 not a top 10 title in North America
Even FIFA 21 still ranks third on the PlayStation 5 and fourth on the PlayStation 4, both ahead of all other sports simulations.
On the new Sony console, F1 2021 follows in eleventh place, and on the last generation console, The Crew 2 is in sixth place – both are racing games.
The situation is different in the United States and Canada, where football as a sport does not enjoy supremacy. NBA 2K22 reigns supreme on the PlayStation 5, while Grand Theft Auto V has the most downloads on the PlayStation 4 – FIFA 22 is only in 12th and 13th place respectively.
On the market worldwide for the first time since October
The dominance of FIFA 22 in Europe is particularly impressive in view of the late release date: The new spin-off only celebrated its worldwide premiere on 1 October and therefore only had three months to push to the top. Many other titles in the top 20 were released much earlier in 2021 or even before the start of the year.
