Before top match: Why a sending-off will be an advantage for Leverkusen

Earlier than expected, a key Leverkusen player returns to training. A sending-off should have a positive effect for the Werkself ahead of the top match against Bayern.

It was actually agreed that Charles Aranguiz would be involved in Chile’s World Cup qualifier against Venezuela on Thursday night (German time). Accordingly, the midfielder would not have arrived back in Leverkusen until Saturday, quite close to the Bundesliga summit meeting against FC Bayern on Sunday afternoon at the BayArena.

Now a sending-off actually has a very positive effect for the Werkself. Aranguiz was shown a yellow card in Chile’s match against Paraguay and is therefore suspended for the Venezuela match.

Aranguiz is expected to arrive as early as Wednesday

It has now been agreed that Aranguiz will arrive in Leverkusen much earlier than planned, namely on Wednesday, so that he should be back on the pitch with his team-mates in Leverkusen from 10.30 on Thursday morning.

Good news, then, for coach Gerardo Seoane, who can count on the important key player in the top match of the second-placed team against the industry leader, who will of course be much fresher than he would have been after playing in the second international match in South America.

Against the expected Bayern offensive power, the aggressive and combative midfielder will of course be most welcome, even if the 32-year-old has not exactly been in top form lately.
